The Square Crop assignment was much more difficult than I had imagined it would be to come up with something compelling, but many of you rose to the occasion, and as usual, posted some incredible images. Let’s look at the three images that amassed the most votes from their peers, as usual, in reverse order.
In third place, we have Super Digital Girl, real name Leslie, with a superb photograph, “Ballerina” (below). Leslie sent me a little information on this photograph, as follows:
This past year I have been working on more documentary style photography so I decided to take a workshop in Connecticut with Elizabeth Opalenik to get in touch with my creative side again. The focus of the workshop [...]

This week we’re going to look at the three winning images from the December 2009 MBP and WebSpy Photography Assignment which was on the theme “Quiet Light”. As usual the standards were very high and the three winning images simply amazing.
We’re going to look at the images in reverse order, starting from third place. Note that I have included the winning images and a few others that the winning photographers provided into the enhanced Podcast audio file, so if you are listening in iTunes or on an iPhone or iPod, you’ll be able to see the images automatically change as we progress. Note too that I update a scores page to see how many votes each person that entered the assignment has amassed, both from the monthly assignments, and for accumulated from the six month assignments [...]

Today it gives me great pleasure to announce the winners of the first MBP/WebSpy Photography Assignment accumulated vote winners for the last six month’s assignments. As you know, when our sponsors WebSpy came on board in July 2009, they kindly set by $1,000 for prizes for our assignment, and I arranged some great prizes for the three people with the most votes from your peers in the six assignments from July to November. So today, we not only hear who the November assignment winners are, we find out who takes the amazing prizes that we have lined up.
Also, WebSpy have kindly offered to continue to be our sponsors, and have put up another $1,000 for prizes for the next six months of assignments, so today I will also announce the prizes that will be given to the lucky [...]

WebSpy, sponsors of the Martin Bailey Photography Podcast, have once again kindly set aside funds for us to offer prizes for the next six month’s accumulated votes from each of our monthly assignments. The first assignment, for December 2009 is already in progress, so if you haven’t already started shooting for this, the theme is “Quiet Light”. Details can be found in the Photography Forum under the Assignment & Critique section.
For this coming assignment, we are actually going to give away fabulous prizes to the top five, not three, but five participants. We will keep a count of the votes each participant recieves from each month, and the five lucky photographers with the most votes when we complete the June 2010 assignment will win the following prizes.
Note that you don’t have to win every month. You don’t even have to enter every month to [...]

Today we look at the results of the October MBP/WebSpy Assignment on the theme Only 50mm! We have some great back-stories to share too!
Once again, the quality of the entries for this assignment was outstanding. Thanks to everyone that participated! As has now become the custom, I’ve got three great back-stories from the winning photographers to share with you today.
Let’s start with the third place winner and that is Marcus Bain with image m14607 (below), entitled “Calm after the storm.” Marcus was placed in the August assignment too, and the next two winners were winners have also been placed a number of times already, so we are certainly seeing some consistency here.

Last month I tried to rewrite the back-stories so that I could tell them myself, but I’m going to [...]
